Preadmission Courses

The Academic Achievement Center offers two pre-enrollment courses: Biology and Chemistry. Although the courses are independent study, help from the instructors is available during the hours they are on duty in the center. The student, in most cases, will need one-on-one help from the instructors since there is no formal classroom setting and lecture. Pre-admissions Course Policies:

A. Fees

The fee for each course is $30.00. (Each course is in two parts which means that the total cost is $60.00 after parts I and II are completed..) The student has 6 months from the day of enrollment to complete each part of the course. An extension for another 6 months can be granted by an additional payment of $30.00. If the course (either part I or II) has not been completed within 12 months, the student will be required to enroll at the beginning of the course and pay the $30.00 fee again. Refunds, when requested, can be made within 30 days of the enrollment date if there has been no activity in the course.

B. Fees

The pre-admission Biology and Chemistry courses are divided into Biology I and Biology II and Chemistry I and Chemistry II. The fee fore each part of each course is $30. The student has four months from the date of enrollment to complete the course. A one time extension for another four months may be granted for medical or other emergencies. This extension requires an additional payment of $30.

If the course has not been completed within 8-months, including the 4-month extension, the student will be required to repeat the entire course by reenrolling and repeating the exams.

There are no course refunds.

C. Testing

All tests will be taken in the Academic Achievement Center in teh designated testing area or at a designated site through the correspondence program. Any student caught cheating will be given a zero on that particular test, and no retest will be allowed.

D. Scoring of Tests

An average of 70% on all tests and/or exercises is required for successful completion. Sixty percent is the minimum acceptable score on any one test in a course. A student who scores less than 60% must retake that exam.

Retaking a failed test:

A minimum waiting period of at least one day is required before retaking the test. The score on the first test will be averaged with the score on the retake. Prior to taking a test, the student is strongly advised to visit the instructor for a review of any material that he or she did not fully understand. An instructor may require a student to complete written assignments before taking any tests.
